Object and Image
A Dialogue Between Dimensions
6 November - 17 December 2026
Oliver Sears Gallery is pleased to present Object and Image - A Dialogue between Dimensions, as part of Dublin Gallery Weekend brought to you by the Contemporary Art Gallery Association.
Curated by Oliver Sears, the exhibition comprises ten pairs of objects and images, brought together to provoke dialogue.
Having exhibited makers, sculptors, painters and photographers for more than three decades, the gallery has regularly launched exhibitions that are multi-dimensional. Object and Image asks the viewer to consider how art influences itself by deliberation or accident.

“What difference does it make whether you're looking at a photograph or looking at a still life in front of you? You still have to look.”
Chuck Close
It is this sense of looking that permeates this exhibition at Oliver Sears Gallery. Artists, whatever their medium, ask us to spend time looking at what they themselves have spent time observing, considering and capturing. Whether through paint, pencil, lens or the making of an object, their work offers us an opportunity to see something of the world through their eyes.
The potter, the turner and the carver create objects that occupy our spaces, responding to light, shadow and the passage of time. These same objects may subsequently become the subjects of paintings or photographs, transformed once again through another artist's act of looking. What exists in three dimensions becomes two, yet each interpretation offers another way of seeing.
We are constantly invited to reflect on life, and sometimes death, through the things that have made an artist stop in their tracks. Something that suddenly demanded their attention, that compelled them to spend time looking, seeing and capturing. From that moment of observation comes something new, something that we in turn can see, feel or touch.
The Still Life and the Natura Morta seem to bookend this contemplation: one suggesting the quiet presence of things, the other reminding us of their transience. The artist's task is to create. Ours is to look, to reflect, to understand.
