Damascus

Laurence Riddell

Oliver Sears Gallery is pleased to announce Damascus, an exhibition of new work by Belfast born artist, Laurence Riddell.  While Riddell's obsession with rendering the image of the horse endures, the essence of the images reveal much more human complexity than equine mystery. Working in pastel, charcoal and oil, the image of the horse never dominates. The tension in the space is held by a sense of either prelude or aftermath, the horses merely punctuate the time the artist is recording.

The artist writes, "Damascus is a body of work depicting a series of events that have been instigated by a presence beyond the representational space. These events which have taken place or are about to take place have a certain unavoidable if not somewhat predetermined outcome to their unfolding drama”.

Damascus opens on 19th October and runs until 23rd November.
